zrikha sheqi'att hashemesh (Sunrise Sunset) is a stunning new catalogue produced on the occasion of Joel Mesler’s eponymous 2023 solo exhibition at David Kordansky Gallery in Los Angeles. Mesler's paintings are arranged in two sections, the first, titled Becoming, features vibrant, full color reproductions of the artist's iconic word paintings, presented in sequence to trace the arc of a setting sun. This is followed by a section titled Rabbis, which includes Mesler's re-interpretations of traditional paintings typically found in Jewish households that the artist has collected over the years. This body of work, at once personal and universal, is further explored and contextualized by an insightful new essay from writer and curator Sarah Lehrer-Graiwer, and newly digitized stills from Mesler's 1987 bar mitzvah. zrikha sheqi'att hashemesh (Sunrise Sunset) is published by David Kordansky Gallery.
